Youth Coordinator - Ian Spooner

 

 

Ian is married has 4 children is originally from England and played for high level soccer clubs in his youth. He received a full scholarship to play soccer at Radford University in Virginia, USA. Ian received many honors at the university and continued to play professionally after graduation until a knee injury ended his career. While in college, Ian began to discover his passion for coaching. He has held several coaching positions with top youth clubs in the US and has been a personal trainer for several players who have reached professional status. Such as: Danny Karbassiyoon (Arsenal, Burnley), Parker Walsh (Karlsruhe SC), Jonathan Campbell (Seattle Sounders) and Brandt Bronico (Charlotte FC).

 

Ian developed and coordinated youth programs that produced current players of the from Serie B (Venice) and U.S. men's internationals, including GianLuca Busio. His roles as youth coach included Technical Director, Director of Coaching and Director of Player Development. Responsibilities in these roles included player development and retention; structuring club philosophy, identity, culture and growth; tournament organization; coach education support and guidance; and handbook education.

During his 20-year full-time professional coaching career, Ian has continued to expand his understanding and education of the sport, earning 300+ hours of professional development and coaching licenses. These included the English FA, the United States Soccer Federation B License, and the US National Youth License. He has been a course instructor for entry level coaching licenses.

 

Ian has worked with European students as a soccer mentor. He helped arrange scholarships to play and study soccer at American universities. Ian assisted businesses so that top youth teams from the U.S. could play against European professional academies such as Hoffenheim, VfB Stuttgart, and Atletico Madrid.

 

We, from TV Kalkum-Wittlaer, are sure that through Ian's passion and experience on and off the pitch, our club can and will continue to grow in all areas.

 

Our youth concept, culture and club identity will be supported by Ian and will continue to develop. We will achieve this by creating club foundations that can help produce players who are committed to their teams, club and local community. Ian will provide support, guidance and feedback to the coaches. Also part of his role is to define the final team set-up, all in consultation with the respective coach of course.

He is responsible for all technical aspects of developing a youth soccer program and other roles within the club.

TV Kalkum-Wittlaer and Ian, are always looking for volunteers and coaches who want to be part of a growing club that teaches kids a foundation to grow and learn.
